London's smallest scheduled airport is located in the coastal town of Southend, near the Thames Estuary, less than 70 km east of central London. The airport tends to concentrate on meeting local demand from around Southend, with only a minority of passengers using it for travel to London.
Due to the similar name, some travellers confuse Southend Airport with the much larger Stansted STN, which lies some 60 miles to the north.
The vast majority of traffic is handled by easyJet, which focuses on flights to Spain, France, the Netherlands and Portugal.
Southend Airport is served by a single small terminal which can be walked through in 5 minutes.
