Katowice

In addition to the car, Katowice Airport is also accessible by public transport and long-distance buses to Krakow, Warsaw and Ostrava.

Cheap hotels near Katowice Airport

Public bus from the main station

The cheapest transport from Katowice Dworzec Gółwny railway station, where all long-distance buses and trains stop, is provided by the AP line of the Katowice transport company ZTM (official website: metropoliaztm.pl/en).

The bus stop in the centre is located in the covered bus station, which is connected to the train station and the adjacent shopping centre. The signage is clear.

Tickets can always be purchased from a machine at the bus stop or from the driver, and can only be paid for with cash.

Cashless payment is possible via the mobile app Jakdojade (Google Play / App Store).

  • Journey time station-airport: 42 minutes
  • Frequency: 30 minutes (60 minutes at night)
  • Fares: 6,60 pln (90-minute required) or 12 pln for 24 hours
  • AP line timetables

The AP line bus operates 24 hours a day at regular 30-minute intervals, and only once an hour at night.

Matuszek minibuses to Katowice

An alternative and often highly promoted transport service is offered by Matuszek with its minibuses, which also run from Katowice Central Station.

They always follow Ryanair and Wizz Air flights, but they don't have many advantages over the AP line public transport bus. The journey time is slightly shorter (about 30 minutes), but the ticket price is significantly higher: 20 pln.

Information about this service can be found on the website www.matuszek.com.pl.

Flixbus buses

Flixbus long-distance buses also stop directly at the airport, running non-stop to Polish and Czech cities.

Book your tickets online at flixbus.com.

Public transport buses to nearby cities

Apart from Katowice, there are public buses from the airport to other cities in the area, but you won't use them much when travelling from the Czech Republic. The only way to use them is if you cross one station during your train journey to Sosnowiec, where buses also run to the airport. For completeness, here are the lines and their timetables (just click on the line number):

  • Sosnowiec - line M19 (interval 30 minutes, night 60 minutes, runs 24 hours a day)
  • Bytom, Gliwice, Zabrze - line AP1 (runs approx. once per hour)

Ticket prices are the same for all cities - 6,60 pln for 90 minutes, or 12 pln for 24 hours. All cities are served by a single transport company and one fare applies.

Train

From the end of 2023 there is also a train to Katowice Airport.

The "Pyrzowice Airport" stop is located about 150 metres from the terminal and for the time being there are about 10 connections a day.

The transport is provided by the S9 line of the carrier "Koleje Śląskie" running on the route Częstochowa - Myszków - Zawiercie - Airport - Tarnowskie Góry.

The timetable and online ticket purchase can be found on the website: kolejeslaskie.com.

  • Częstochowa - 18 pln / 1 hour journey
  • Tarnowskie Góry - 8 pln / 17 minutes drive

In the future, the connection will be extended directly to the centre of Katowice. Currently, however, the bus remains the fastest and most frequent form of transport in the direction of Katowice.
