Getting from Kalymnos Airport

View from Chrysocheria Castle

Due to the extreme natural conditions of Kalymnos, the airport is built on a plateau about 5 km from the port of Kalymnos and 3 km from the town of Panormos.

Taxi

Taxis are the only form of public transport to the airport.

There are always plenty of taxis waiting directly outside the arrivals hall after the arrival of each scheduled flight. Some cars are waiting for pre-booked passengers, especially locals, while others are waiting for random passengers.

Should you miss all the taxis waiting for random passengers, the remaining taxi drivers will be happy to call their colleagues and within 20 minutes a taxi will come for you.

Normal prices from the airport are as follows:

  • Kalymnos (centre and port) - 12 eur
  • Panormos - 10 eur
  • Vlychadia - 18 eur
  • Vathis - 20 eur

Bus

Although there are regular bus routes around the island (operated by smaller vans rather than large buses), none of them go to the airport.

You can find indicative timetables on the website: kalymnos-isl.gr/bus-itineraries. The nearest stop is 2,5 km from the airport in Chorio (line "Pothia - Armeos").

On foot

You can of course walk from the airport, but don't count on any pavement. The traffic on the main road is quite heavy.

On the way from the airport you will go very steeply downhill. Similarly, you will have a steep climb on the way to the airport.
