FLL Airport is ideally located as a starting point for travel around Florida. Miami is 44 km south, and the large cruise ship port of Port Everglades is just 5 km from the terminals.
Car rental
If you're heading straight from the airport to explore Florida, your best and virtually only option is to rent a car at the airport. There is a free shuttle bus from the more distant terminals to the central building with all the car rental companies, but it takes no more than 10 minutes to walk here along the marked path.
Always book your car online in advance to ensure availability of a specific model and a significantly lower price.
A common price for a 7-day rental is between 300 usd and 450 usd, with better cars, such as convertibles, starting at 550 usd and going up.
Train or bus to Miami
Although there are no train tracks leading directly to the terminals, two rail companies provide free shuttle buses from the nearest stations to the terminals.
Long-distance bus carriers also offer direct connections without transfers.
RedCoach
Red Coach coaches run non-stop from the terminals to the airport Miami MIAfrom where you can easily reach the city centre by metro or public bus.
The bus stop is located between terminals 1 and 2.
The journey is non-stop on the motorway and takes between 30 and 40 minutes depending on traffic. Buses run about 8 times a day.

Flixbus
Roughly 4-5 times a day, runs directly from Fort Lauderdale Airport to the airport Miami MIA Flixbus buses are also available.
The bus stop is located between terminals 1 and 2.
The trip is non-stop on the highway and takes 30 to 40 minutes depending on traffic.

Tri Rail
The cheapest service to Miami is provided by Tri-Rail from Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport, located about 3 km from the terminals.
Trains run at 30-40 minute intervals during rush hour and once an hour during off-peak hours. The trip to Miami, where it terminates at the airport, takes 45 minutes and costs 3,75 usd on weekdays or 5 usd on weekends and holidays.
You can buy a ticket at each station from a machine where you can also pay by card.

To get to the train station from the airport, take the free shuttle bus, which stops on the ground floor at Terminal 1 and also at Terminal 4, where it stops at the furthest stop towards the exit of the airport area.

The bus journey between the airport and the station takes approximately 15 minutes. The total travel time from FLL to downtown Miami, including transfers, is approximately 100 minutes.
Birghtline
A yellow "FLL Flight Connector" shuttle van is also provided to the airport by rail carrier Brightline. The van rides are free and follow the train schedule.
The vans run between the airport and the Fort Lauderdale station in downtown, which takes approximately 20 minutes to reach.
Brightline trains run on average once per hour and, unlike Tri Rail trains, arrive directly in downtown Miami at Miami Central Station. Ticket prices are dynamic based on train availability and range from 10 usd to 19 usd.

The trip from downtown Fort Lauderdale to Miami takes 38 minutes. Total travel time from FLL terminals to downtown Miami, including transfers, will take approximately 90 minutes.
Bus to Fort Lauderdale
To get to the city, take the BCT bus line 1, which terminates at the central transfer point (Broward Central Terminal) in the middle of Fort Lauderdale. It stops at the airport at a single stop near the rental car center.

The first bus from downtown leaves at 5:00 a.m., and the last bus from the airport leaves promptly at midnight.
Trains or buses to West Palm Beach
Similar to Miami, you can also take a train combined with a free shuttle bus to West Palm Beach. Direct long-distance buses without transfers are also available.
Two rail carriers and one bus company also operate on this route.

From Fort Lauderdale Airport, you can also get to Orlando, home to the popular Disneyland.

The journey takes approximately 3 hours and 15 minutes and tickets cost from 25 usd to 50 usd, depending on availability.

Birghtline
Starting in 2023, Brightline trains run as far as Orlando.
There are no tracks to Fort Lauderdale Airport, but Brightline offers free yellow van service from the terminals to the "Fort Lauderdale" station. The van schedule follows the train service.
The train ride from Fort Lauderdale to Orlando takes 2 hours and 50 minutes, and the total travel time from the terminals will be approximately 3.5 hours including the van ride.

Taxi
Taxi is the best option for passengers heading on their own to the Port Everglades cruise ship dock, which is not served by public transportation.
Pricing from the airport varies between 18 usd and 22 usd, depending on traffic density, and is always by meter.
Prices from the airport to the beaches will be around 35 usd.
In addition to traditional taxis, Uber is also available at FLL.
