Getting from Faro Airport

Faro

Use one of the many car rental companies to travel around southern Portugal.

Buses also arrive at the airport from Faro and other resorts along the Algarve coast.

Car rental

If your holiday is more of a sightseeing holiday and you want to explore more of the Algarve, hiring a car is definitely the best option. Although public transport around the Algarve works relatively well, the intervals between services are often not very attractive and many places can only be reached 3-4 times a day.

There are many car rental companies at the airport, all of which can be compared at the click of a button according to your criteria, for example via the booking.com.

Rental prices at the airport range from 240 eur per week in the summer, dropping to 90 eur in the winter. We recommend avoiding Goldcar, which is notoriously unfair.

Bus direction Faro

The airport is connected to the centre of Faro and the town's main beach , Praia de Faro, by two bus routes operated by Próximo, which provides public transport in Faro.

  • Line 14 - takes about 20 minutes to the centre, with only 3-5 services per day (timetable and map: proximo.pt/schedules/linha14)
  • Line 15 - goes to the centre via a detour through the eastern part of the city for about 30 minutes, runs only on weekdays about 4 times a day (timetable and map: proximo.ptschedules/linka15)
  • Line 16 - runs to the centre for 15 minutes at intervals of 30-50 minutes from 5:00 to 23:00, terminates in the city at the bus station (timetable and map: proximo.pt/schedules/linha16)

The ticket costs 2,70 eur. You can buy the ticket in cash or with a contactless card from the bus driver.

You can also use the express bus line 56 of the carrier Vamus to the centre of Fara, providing all intercity services around the Algarve. Line 56 runs 6 times a day (timetables: vamusalgarve.pt/routes) and the journey to the centre of Fara costs 5 eur.

Bus along the coast

If you're heading straight from the airport to the famous sandstone cliffs of the coast, use the buses of the Vamus Algarve.

Albufeira, Lagoa, Portimão, Lagos

These places are served by the express bus number 56, also known as the "Aerobus". It runs 6-8 times a day. The timetable can be found under the route number in the list of all routes on vamusalgarve.pt.

On line 56 "Aerobus" there is a special tariff different from the other routes. Faro Airport one-way ticket prices:
