One of the largest airports on the Caribbean coast is located in the southeastern corner of Mexico on the Yucatán Peninsula.
The main resort hotel district of Cancún is about 25 km away.
Most of the airport's traffic is handled by airlines from the USA and Canada, which bring tourists to Cancún. Flights to Mexico City and other major Mexican cities are also very busy.
There are also direct flights from Cancún to South America, the Caribbean and Europe.

Hi, I want to share my airport experience with you.
Arriving from Portugal at T4 - all fine, check in for 15 minutes, just asked where I was from and gave me a stamp. On departure everything OK.
Arriving from Guatemala at T2 - disaster, 3 hour wait (2,5 hours passport check and 30 minutes for baggage check). My luggage was not checked anyway. No one, even after being warned, took any notice of my connecting flight.
As for documents - don't rely on your EU passport. Prepare all reservations in Spanish and your return ticket. The Spanish girls before me had to give me a phone to check as well.
Avoid taxi drivers outside the terminals. Try to arrange your own transfer or use ADO, but you will be discouraged by the airport "crew". It's all a scam that the "crew" will lead you on. Unfortunately, I missed my flight to Europe due to a botched immigration check and had to take a taxi to T4 ASAP. Supposedly for 10 dollars, but the terminal gave me 10k pesos and then 5k pesos. They're pretty aggressive.
If they convince you Cancun is dangerous. Don't believe it! If you live downtown/near downtown you are not in much danger. I lived about 20 minutes walk from the ADO terminal and walked around the city in the evening. Lots of people everywhere and a relaxed atmosphere.
