While there is standard public transport in Abidjan, taxis or the Uber mobile app are the most common form of transport to/from the airport.
The cost to the city centre is approximately 5,500 West African francs.
Taxi / Uber
Official taxis are waiting outside the terminal. They are always paid directly to the taxi driver and we recommend you really go all the way out in front of the terminal and only go with the taxi driver waiting by his car. Ignore offers of a lift from people waiting in the arrivals hall.
There can be a shortage of taxis at peak arrival times around midday, and you could be waiting well over 30 minutes for a car.
You will need to agree a price with the driver in advance, and taximeters are not commonly used. The usual price to central Abidjan for a taxi should be no more than 7 000 xof, however, prices can double after dark.
There is also a mobile app in Abidjan called Uber, which offers rides for prices ranging from 5 500 xof from the airport to the city centre. However, there are relatively few cars and waiting times are usually 30-45 minutes.
The journey to the centre by taxi takes around 30 minutes.
Bus
Public transport in Abidjan is provided by SOTRA buses.
Line 6 runs to the airport, with standard large buses (designated as "Monbus"). Bus number 6 goes to the "Gare Sud" bus station in the south of the centre.
The interval is an irregular 20-45 minutes and buses run from about 5:45 to 19:30. The journey to the centre takes about 45 minutes and you can buy a ticket from the driver or conductor for 200 xof.
The official website of the carrier: sotra.ci.
Rent a car
If you dare to brave the lively African traffic and want to venture out into the countryside on your own without a driver, there are also several international car rental companies operating directly at Abidjan Airport.
Prices for 1 week are around 380 usd.
