You can claim compensation directly from the airline or simply and free of charge from specialist agencies.
Compensation under EC Regulation 261 applies to all flights operated by Austrian Airlines.
Delayed flight with Austrian Airlines

If the length of the delay at the arrival airport is 3 hours or more, you are also entitled to financial compensation of 250 eur to 600 eur depending on the distance between the two airports.
You are only entitled to financial compensation if Austrian Airlines is at fault for the delay. You can read more about this in the article Compensation for flight delays.

If Austrian Airlines cancels your flight more than 14 days before departure, you are entitled to a free change of date or a refund of the original ticket price.

Again, compensation will only be due if the airline cancels the flight and not due to unforeseen circumstances.
