Wat Benchamabophit Temple, also known as Marble Temple, is one of the most beautiful monuments in Bangkok and the most visited Buddhist temple.
The temple complex is one of the smaller ones and it will take you less than half an hour to visit. Also visit one of the royal residences nearby , Dusit Palace.
The gleaming white marble
Construction of the temple began in 1899 and was completed in 1911 at the behest of King Chulalongkorn, who built the Dusit Palace nearby.
What makes Wat Benchamabophit particularly striking is the materials from which it is built. Most of the walls, columns and statues are made of bright white Italian marble from the Carrara mines. The interior and decorated parts of the exterior are made of varnished and richly gilded wood.
Inside the temple there are a total of 52 Buddha statues.
Admission and opening hours
The marble temple is open daily from 8:30-17:30.
The ticket price for foreigners is 20 thb and can only be paid in cash.
Transportation to the Marble Temple
Wat Benchamabophit stands in the Dusit district far from the nearest metro station and the easiest mode of transportation is by taxi.
In addition, you can also take advantage of the electric boats that ply the 500-metre canal between the main station and Thewes Wharf.
Bus line 72 also stops right by the temple, running to modern Bangkok, specifically the Siam and Sukhumvit districts.
