Riksdaghuset

Riksdaghuset

The beautiful parliament building, known in Swedish as the "Riksdaghuset", is located on the small island of Helgeandsholmen near the centre of Gamla Stan.

The sprawling building was built between 1897 and 1095 in an ornate neoclassical style.

But it's the monumental Baroque gates that draw the public into the Riksgatan public courtyard, which forms a wide pedestrian zone connecting Gamla Stan to central Stockholm.

This courtyard is accessible free of charge 24/7.

The interior of the Parliament itself is not open to the public, except for the library.
