Katarina Elevator

Katrina Elevator

The Katarina Elevator is an interesting technical structure that rises on the other side of the bridge directly above the centre of Gamla Stan.

The name is a bit misleading, however, as the elevator is closed for a long time, so you will have to walk, but the view is worth it.

The view and the upscale restaurants

The elevator is used for a quick trip from the Slussen waterfront to the Katarina-Sofia district, which is located on a hill. There is currently extensive construction in the area and the elevator is out of service for a long time (expected by 2025).

However, the footbridge that leads from the upper parts of the district to the lift offers spectacular views of Gamla Stan and the islands of Djurgården, Skeppsholmen and Kastellholmen.

Below the footbridge, which is open to the public, you can have dinner or lunch with the best view of Stockholm at the Gondolen restaurant. We recommend booking in advance on the website: gondolen.se.

Admission and opening hours

The scenic footbridge and the lift itself are open 24/7 and admission is free.
