The village of Fajãzinha is a beautiful place nestled in a wide valley below monumental cliffs, including the famous Cascata da Ribeira do Ferreiro waterfalls.
Prices and availability of accommodation in Flores
Fajãzinha itself is not really of any interest. Only something like 70 inhabitants live here and you won't even find a shop. However, we were completely charmed by Fajãzinha because of its tranquility and the beautiful environment in which it is situated.
Fajazinha is such a typical example of a remote Azores village with beautifully landscaped houses, a small square, pastures and a soothing sleepy life.
What to see and not to miss?
The centre of the village is adorned with the beautiful and, by Azorean standards, somewhat unusual 18th century Nossa Senhora dos Remédios church.
Originally, the church had a traditional Portuguese look with a white facade and black corner stones. However, after the renovation after 2020, these typical black pilasters were plastered in light blue.
Drive your car down the tarmac road to the very end, down to the small car park and visit the majestic beach with its giant stones. Although they make it virtually impossible to enter the water, the place is extremely photogenic thanks to the mouth of the Ribeira Grande River.
Also stop at the viewpoint, which is located immediately after turning off the main road. From here you will have the whole village and valley in the palm of your hand.
On the western edge of the village, visit one of the most popular restaurants on Flores: Restaurante Pôr-do-Sol. It boasts spectacular sunset views and great local cuisine.
The restaurant is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 12:00-14:00, and also in the evening between 19:00 and 21:00 outside of Sunday. It remains closed on Mondays.
Accommodation
Stay in one of the family suites and enjoy the slow life of an Azorean village to the full. We recommend, for example, these superbly rated accommodations just about a 3-minute walk from the village center:
