The bay with the beach of Cala Goloritze is one of the most famous places of the eastern coast of Sardinia around Golfo di Orosei.
The 10 cheapest hotels in Sardinia
Cala Goloritzé is located in the municipality of Baunei between the resorts of Arbatax and Cala Gonone.
Facilities and appearance of the beach
The immediate surroundings of Goloritzé beach are decorated with several impressive rock formations such as rock gates or high cliffs.
The absolute highlight, however, is the 150-metre-high pointed rock of Punta Goloritzé, also popular with climbers.
The beach itself is very small and covered with small white pebbles and large boulders.
The entrance to the water is gradual but rocky. The sea here is crystal clear and the rugged shores create good conditions for snorkelling.
The beach is completely without any equipment.
Entrance fees and reservations
As of June 2024, entry to the beach is subject to a fee and is only permitted by prior reservation on the website: coopgoloritze.com/en/cooperativa-goloritze.
How to get there
Goloritze Bay is only accessible on foot or by boat.
By boat
Boats to Cala Goloritzé leave from the towns of Cala Gonone, Arbatax and Santa Maria Navarrese.
The normal price for a round trip is 50 eur, and in the summer holidays around 60 eur. Examples of boat companies:
The boats sail several times a day in high season and have a precise timetable to plan the length of your stay on the beach.
On foot
A beautiful walking trail through a deep wooded canyon leads from the parking lot of the Su Porteddu campground.
Parking is free, but you must pay to enter the hiking trail leading to the beach. The current price in 2024 is 8 eur.
The trail is 3.5 km one way and covers an elevation gain of over 400 meters. Hiking or at least walking shoes are necessary, sandals or flip flops are downright dangerous and you won't get far with them.
There are no climbing sections along the way and a hiker of average fitness should be able to complete the trail without too much trouble.
Beachfront accommodation
Cala Mariolu lies in a completely remote area where you won't find hotels, apartments or campsites.
The nearest resorts to stay near Cala Mariolu are Arbatax and Cala Gonone. It is the smaller Cala Gonone that has significantly lower accommodation prices, where even in high season you can get apartments for under 90 eur per night for 2, which is a very good price for Sardinia.
