Kykkos Monastery is the most famous and one of the most beautiful monasteries in Cyprus. It is located at an altitude of over 1,300 metres in the middle of the Troodos Mountains and was founded in the late 11th century. However, nothing remains of the original buildings of the monastery and its present appearance dates back to the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Kykkos Monastery is widely visited, especially for its magnificent golden mosaics and ornate icons. As it is located in a mountainous setting, a trip here is ideal to combine with hiking in the mountains or visiting the nearby villages of Pedoulas, Moutoullas or Kakopetria.

Entrance fees and opening hours

Open daily from 10:00 to 18:00, in winter only until 16:00.

To enter the interior of the monastery, where you will see beautiful mosaics and Orthodox icons, you pay 5 eur.

How to get there

The monastery can only be reached by car, no buses pass by. From Paphos to Kykkos is about 73 km, while from Larnaca it is over 120 km.
