The monastery of Agios Neophytos (often spelled Agios Neofytos) is located about 10 km north of Paphos and is the most visited monastery complex in Cyprus. It was founded in the 12th century and already at first sight impresses with its location.
The monastery is literally carved into the rock in the foothills of Troodos overlooking the sea. Some of the original 12th century foundations remain visible today, however most of the current buildings date from the 19th century.
Toenter the monastery, which includes a small museum charting its history, just pay 2 eur. It is open daily from 9am to 6pm, and only until 4pm in winter.
As well as by car, the monastery can be reached directly from Paphos by public transport bus line 604, which runs 7 times a day on weekdays, 4 times a day on Saturdays, but does not run on Sundays.
