Sola Airport, about 14 km south of Stavanger, is the third largest airport in Norway. As well as being a trade route to the major centre of the oil industry in Norway, Stavanger is an extremely popular starting point for hiking routes around the fjords or to the famous Preikestolen lookout.
Most of the traffic is served by domestic and short international routes, mainly to Western Europe, the UK, the Nordic countries or Poland. SAS and Norwegian airlines operate most of the routes.
There is a large helicopter base at the airport, which transports workers to the oil platforms.
