On the island of Hesse is one of Ålesund's most interesting attractions, Atlanterhavsparken, in English Atlantic Sea-Park.

It is a collection of several aquariums and outdoor tanks with fauna that is mainly found in the waters of the North Atlantic. The aquarium can be found 3.5 km west of the centre of Aalesund in a picturesque rural area.

What will you see at the aquariums?

A visit to the park offers a daily diving show in the largest tank, which holds 4 million litres of seawater, during which fish such as cod, salmon, halibut and eels are fed.

The outdoor tanks are inhabited by penguins, seals and otters. Feeding them is also part of the daily show.

Admission and opening hours

The aquarium is open every day of the year (except Christmas, New Year's Eve and some other holidays).

During the summer it is open 9:00-17:00 and in winter only 10:00-16:00. For exact opening hours, please visit the aquarium's website: atlanterhavsparken.no/apningstider.

How to get there

Atlanterhavsparken is outside the centre of Ålesund, but you can drive right up to the park by road. Parking at the aquarium is free.

During the summer season, the aquarium runs its own shuttle buses running every 60 minutes for free from the central bus station.

There are no public transport buses to the aquarium, but you can take the city bus number 1 from the centre and get off at the "Tuenesvegen" stop.
