You can get to Corsica either by air or by ferry, which is a very popular way.

Many travellers head to Corsica in their own cars, especially if they want to stop over on their way through continental Europe.

By air to Corsica

The quickest and most convenient way to get to Corsica, however, is of course by plane followed by a rental car, although Corsica remains one of the last islands on the map of Europe not to have been colonised in a big way by low-cost airlines with ultra-low-cost tickets.

Despite the relatively small size of Corsica, there are 4 international airports, all of which we have mini-guides for, see the link below the airport name:

  • Bastia BIA - the busiest in Corsica and usually with the cheapest connections. It has the most direct connections from Europe with usually the cheapest tickets, for example via these airlines:
  • Ajaccio AJA - the second main airport with connections mainly to France, which is widely operated by Air France, Volotea or Air Corsica
  • Calvi CLY - in northern Corsica, connections are almost exclusively limited to flights to France or Switzerland via Air France, Air Corsica or easyJet
  • Figari FSC - in the south of Corsica, very frequent connections to France with Air France, Air Corsica, Volotea or easyJet, but you can also get here with Ryanair via Brussels or Beauvais, for example

Flight prices to Corsica

As already mentioned, flights to Corsica are quite expensive within Europe.

Typical prices from mainland France are around 200 eur for a return ticket and from the rest of Europe between 200 eur and 350 eur depending on the season.

By boat to Corsica

Even with expensive airfares and the desire to travel around Corsica by private car, boats remain a very popular mode of transport to Corsica.

Ferries to the French island sail year-round from both the French and Italian mainland, as well as from the Italian island of Sardinia.

Corsica has six ferry ports - Bastia, Ajaccio, Bonifacio, Porto Vecchio, Propriano, L'lle Rouse. Ferries to Corsica operate from France (Nice, Marseille, Toulon), Italy (Genoa, Livorno, La Spezia, Savona, Livorno, Piombino) or the Italian island of Sardinia (Santa Teresa).

Detailed information about prices, routes and length of the cruise can be found in a separate chapter - Ferry to Corsica.
