The Church of the Seven Saints is one of the most important monuments in Sofia and has an interesting history. It is named after Saints Cyril and Methodius and their five disciples.

From Mosque to Church
The building was built in 1547 during the Ottoman Empire as the Black Mosque. It got its name from the minaret built of black granite.
After the fall of the Ottoman Empire and the liberation of Bulgaria in 1878, the mosque was abandoned and used as a warehouse and prison.
In 1901, reconstruction began on an Orthodox church, which was completed in 1903 in its present form.

Admission to the church is free.
The Church of the Seven Saints is open to the public daily from 8:00-17:00.
The church can be found in the south-eastern part of the centre.
