Central Mineral Baths

The building of the Central Mineral Baths is one of Sofia's main monuments and a remnant of the period when Sofia was an important spa town.

The numerous baths in the centre of Sofia have been functioning since the 16th century thanks to the powerful mineral springs. Many Turkish baths were established during the Ottoman Empire's rule, but they persisted even after Bulgaria's liberation.

The present building of the Central Mineral Baths was built in the early 20th century and served the public until 1986.

At that time, however, the mineral springs were practically non-existent and therefore the baths were closed and converted into a museum.

Today the building houses the Regional Museum of the History of Sofia, which can be visited daily from 10:00 to 18:00 at 6 bgn except Mondays when it is closed.
