Transfer at London Gatwick Airport

London

Gatwick has two terminals: North and South. The terminals are divided by airline and connected by a free automated train. It runs 24 hours a day with an interval of 4-5 minutes, only on the public part (landside).

Airline distribution by terminal (for up-to-date info, see the airport website: gatwickairport.com/which-terminal):

  • Terminal North: Air China, Air Transat, Delta, easyJet*, Emirates, Icelandair, JetBlue, Lufthansa, Qatar Airways, Rwandair, TUI*, Westjet
  • Terminal South: Aer Lingus, Aegean Airlines, Air India, Aurigny, British Airways, Eastern Airways, easyJet*, Jet2, Norse Atlantic, Norwegian, Ryanair, TAP Portugal, TUI*, Turkish Airlines, Vueling, Wizz Air

*EasyJet and TUI fly from both terminals. The specific departure terminal will always be marked on your ticket.

For both terminals, arrivals are always on the ground floor and departures on the upper floors.

It is common practice at Gatwick for the departure gate number to be displayed on the information board less than an hour before departure. Although the terminals are large and rugged, the signage is clear and will guide you to the quickest way to the gate.

Passport control is only ever done after arrival. There is no passport control at any airport before you leave the UK.

Transfer between flights

If you are connecting at Gatwick Airport as a single ticket, you will only be connecting within one terminal.

In this case, you do not need to leave the transit area and just move to the connecting gate.

If you are connecting on a single ticket, any time the airline sells you is enough time to transfer. Usually, the transfer from gate to gate alone will not take more than 25 minutes.

You will go through a security check each time you transfer.

Transfer between terminals

You will only move between terminals when you make your own transfers.

To move between the North and South terminals, you must pass through passport control, go outside and find the automated "Inter-terminal Shuttle". The shuttle is free and runs 24 hours a day at intervals of 4-10 minutes.

The transfer between terminals itself takes about 35 minutes.
