Where to stay in Tioman

Tioman

There are less than a dozen accommodation facilities on Tioman. These are mostly guesthouses and smaller family-run hotels. However, a few of them are larger sprawling resorts or boutique hotels on private beaches.

Hotels are located in individual villages, which, with the exception of Juara, are closer to the mainland on the western side of the island, where the sea is also considerably calmer.

The cheapest deals need to be compared on multiple portals, as they vary not only in price but especially in availability. Search on booking.com or agoda.com.

Where to stay in Tioman

Juara

The only village on the eastern side of the island is Juara. The main attraction is the 2 and a half kilometre long and several dozen metres wide sandy beach. Due to its vastness, probably the most accommodation offers from the whole of Tioman are concentrated here. Read more about Juara here.

Tekek

Although Tekek is the main village on Tioman and offers a sandy beach in the centre of the village, you won't find many accommodation options here. The base is more for the permanent residents and supplies of the island, as the main port, airport and the only ATM on the island are located here. However, there is a resort near Tekek on the south side that is 100% worth mentioning.

Tips for hotels in Tekeko:

  • Go Deeper Tioman
  • Memory Lane
  • 1108 Tekek
  • Babura Seaview Resort
  • Cheers Minimart and Guesthouse
  • Our tip: Berjaya Tioman Resort **** - a large resort with its own beach and jetty located outside Tekek but accessible by tarmac road, be sure to check out the reviews and photos of the hotel

Tekek is accessible by plane from Kuala Lumpur as well as ferries from the mainland.

Paya

The small village of Paya will offer an idyllic holiday on Tioman. It will offer everything from snorkelling activities on the beautiful coral near Pulau Tumuk to treks to the nearby beaches of Bunot Beach or Genting. Find out more about this place in the Paya guide.

Tips for hotels in Paya:

  • Aman Tioman Beach Resort ****
  • Udive Paya
  • Paya Paradise Resort
  • Our tip: Paya Beach Spa and Dive Resort **** - this sprawling resort in the north of the village offers several room types, including those right on the beach or on piers over a palm-shaded pond. We recommend the local restaurant and Activity Center

Paya is accessible by ferries from the mainland.

Genting

The first ferry port of call from the mainland is in Genting. This is also where most tourists head, as the relatively large village offers plenty of accommodation options. Easy access leads north to Paya along a marked trail, but also to the boutique hotel Melina. More about Genting.

Tips for hotels in Genting:

  • Beach House
  • Bungkil Place
  • Zaidi Chill Resort
  • Ayer Raja Tioman Resort
  • Dumba Bay Resort ****
  • Tioman Genting Happy Inn

  • Idaman Beach Holiday Resort
  • Our tip: Melina Beach Resort - this boutique resort is located in complete isolation on a beautiful beach and even more beautiful coastline. The nearest villages are Paya and Genting, both accessible via the jungle trail. You'll be hard-pressed to find a greater dose of luxury on Tioman.

All the ferries from the mainland go to Genting.

Mukut

On the south side of the island is the isolated village of Mukut. It's not accessible by anything other than boat and, as a result, you can't expect much tourist or cruise ship traffic here. The two main resorts are 10 minutes by boat from Mukut.

Tips for hotels in Mukut:

The best transport option to Mukut is a ferry directly from the mainland. If it is not available, use the ferry to Genting followed by a water taxi.

Tioman hotel prices

Prices on Tioman change substantially with seasonality and the high season, which is from June to August. This is when it's usual for the price per night to be around 92 eur even in the most basic cabins and guesthouses. For resorts, expect prices between 110 eur 257 eur per night for two people.

In high season, it is essential to book accommodation in advance as most of the island's capacity is usually sold out. Search on booking.com or agoda.com.
