Getting around Sunny Beach

Sunny Beach

In this chapter you will learn how to get around Sunny Beach and the nearest nearby resorts of Nesebar, Sveti Vlas, Elenite, Ravda and Pomorie.

All of these places are served by a very busy bus service, which runs late into the night.

Within the Sunny Beach, which is more than 5 km long, you can also travel by tourist road trains, and Nessebar can also be easily reached by ferry.

Public buses

Transport within Sunny Beach and the surrounding area is provided by Di Es Bus with its old orange buses.

While buses on long-distance routes (including the line to Burgas) are almost always air-conditioned, these orange buses are without air-conditioning and are often very crowded.

Routes and timetables

Timetables for all lines can be found at diesbus.com/avtobusni-linii. Timetables are also displayed at the vast majority of stops.

However, only the departure times from the first stop on the route are always shown. So if you are boarding somewhere along the route, you have to calculate the actual departure time from that stop very roughly based on how far away the first stop on the line is.

There are 10 bus routes available for getting around Sunny Beach and the surrounding area.

Fares and tickets

Fares are always paid on the bus with the conductor.

After boarding, sit or stand and the conductor will find you. You can always pay in cash only, but you don't need to have the exact amount.

Prices vary depending on the distance you travel.

  • Sunny Beach - Sveti Vlas, Nessebar: 2 bgn
  • Sunny Beach - Ravda, Elenite: 3 bgn
  • Sunny Beach - Pomorie: 5 bgn

Stops

Buses stop only at marked stops that you can recognize at a glance.

If you want to get off, press the "stop" button.

The tourist train

Several lines of road tourist trains run along the entire Sunny Beach up to Nessebar.

These trains serve not only as a tourist attraction, but also as a practical means of transport. They run much closer to the beach than regular buses.

Although the ride is not very comfortable, the fact that the local buses are not air-conditioned means that a ride on an open tourist train can be more pleasant in the end.

Ticket prices

There is a charge for each ride 6 bgn. If you just change trains, you have to pay an additional fare of lv6 again.

It is paid only in cash to the conductor, who will come to you and collect the money himself.

Routes and timetables

There are 4 different train lines operating on Sunny Beach and in neighbouring Nessebar.

They all run roughly once every 15 minutes and only stop at designated stops, but only if you tell the conductor where you will be getting off.

Operating hours are from 10:00 to 24:00.

Ferry to Nessebar

Regular boats run from the central pier in the middle of the main beach to the historic centre of Nessebar.

The boats run every day from 10:00 to approximately 22:00. Sometimes the last boat goes as late as 22:15, but sometimes at 21:45.

According to the information board, the ferry runs every 20 minutes, but in practice it only departs when it is full enough, i.e. once every 20-35 minutes on average.

  • Price - 15 bgn, cash only
  • Sailing time - approx. 30 minutes

Taxi

Mobile apps like Uber or Bolt don't work on Sunny Beach, but there are plenty of official yellow cabs on the streets.

Taxis wait at designated spots, but you can flag them down anywhere on the street without any problems.

There are plenty of taxis on the streets at all hours of the day and night.

Prices around Sunny Beach and to Nessebar are calculated according to the taximeter.

  • 6,50 bgn - boarding tax
  • 4,50 bgn - price per 1 kilometre
  • 2,25 bgn - price for 1 minute of parking (for example at traffic lights)

So taxis are very expensive and even fixed prices to more distant places are high (for example to Burgas airport for 80 bgn).
