Nessebar is easily accessible by public transport from the nearest major cities and is very close to a major international airport.

As it forms one group of very close towns with the surrounding resorts of Ravda, Pomorie, Sveti Vlas and Sunny Beach, we describe travel between these towns in more detail in the Transport chapter.

By air

Burgas BOJ airport is 25 km from Nessebar, which means about 30 minutes by tourist bus organized by a tour operator.

There are charter flights from all over Europe to Burgas, but during the summer season you can also buy individual tickets here, especially with low-cost airlines Ryanair, Jet2 or easyJet.

You can buy very cheap tickets especially at the very beginning and end of the summer season.

Public transport from the airport to Nessebar

From the roundabout located about 250 metres from the terminal, you can get directly to the centre of old and new Nessebar without changing buses.

Bus line 10 runs every 30-40 minutes from about 6:00 am to midnight between Burgas and Nessebar, stopping at the airport.

Intercity bus

Unlike the neighbouring Sunny Beach, there are no long-distance or international buses stopping in Nessebar.

The bus station is located by the walls at the entrance to the old town, however all buses also stop in the new Nessebar on the mainland.

Long-distance or regional buses, except for the neighbouring resorts (see Transport chapter), run to these places:

  • Burgas - line 10 runs every 40 minutes from approx. 6:00 to 23:50, stopping in both old and new Nessebar, price 8 bgn (pay cash only at the conductor inside the bus). Line 22 also goes to Burgas, but it only stops in new Nessebar at the "Festa Panorama" stop.
  • Varna - line 33 runs 6 times a day, stops in both old and new Nessebar, price 12 bgn (pay only in cash at the conductor inside the bus).
  • Sofia - Union Ivkoni runs about 7-10 times a day, stops in old Nessebar, price from 36 bgn (5% discount if purchased online at en.union-ivkoni.com)
  • Plovdiv - Union Ivkoni runs approx. 3 times a day, stops in old Nessebar, price from 25 bgn (5% discount when purchased online at en.union-ivkoni.com)
  • Stara Zagora - Union Ivkoni runs approx. 7-10 times a day, stops in old Nesebar, price from 22 bgn (5% discount when purchased online at en.union-ivkoni.com)
