From the airport you can quickly reach the city centre by the special "Flybussen" bus line. For a cheaper, but necessary transfer, you can get to the city centre by local public buses.

Car rental

If the city of Stavanger is not your only destination, but you also want to explore the beautiful Norwegian countryside and fjords (such as the famous Preikestolen or Kjerag), renting a car is by far the best way to travel.

Intercity transport to remote areas is very sporadic.

Buses to Stavanger

The centre of Stavanger is accessible by various means.

Flybussen

The fastest way to get to the centre is by Flybussen bus on the FB40 line, which has 2 route options.

• The western route via the Madla and Sandal districts around Stavanger turnhall runs more frequently (2x per hour)
• The eastern variant via the SUS University Hospital runs once an hour on weekdays, with only a few connections in the afternoon on Sundays and none at all on Saturdays

Both variants meet in the city centre and serve the main train and bus stations. The terminus of both routes is on the central promenade by the Fiskepiren boat docks. The buses are not express and stop at most stops along the way.

You can pay for your ticket by card at the bus driver or online at flybussen.no.

Buses 42 + 7

For a cheaper journey, take bus number 42 to the "Sande terrasse" stop (in the direction of Sandnes), which takes about 12 minutes from the airport. Cross the street and in the opposite direction take the express line X50 towards the centre (runs about 25 minutes at 15 minute intervals, but only in the morning and afternoon on weekdays) or the slower line 7 (runs about 40 minutes).

For a transfer ticket valid for 1 hour you will pay 45 nok. You can pay the fare by simply attaching your own contactless card to the reader at the driver's desk or in the Columbus Billett mobile app.

There is also a 24-hour ticket for 100 nok for all buses, boats and local trains in the Stavanger + Sandnes zone. The ticket can only be bought on the Columbus Billett mobile app or at the ticket machines at the bus stop (there is no machine at the airport). When paying with a contactless card, daily limits do not count and therefore the 24-hour fare cannot be used.

To Sandnes, 10 km away, where you can change trains or suburban buses, take bus line 42.

A single ticket can be purchased by tapping your own credit card with the driver, while a 24-hour ticket can only be purchased using the Columbus Billett mobile app or at the machines at the bus stop (there is no machine at the airport).

Taxi

Taxi is the fastest but also the most expensive means of transport. For a 20-minute ride from Sola Airport to downtown Stavanger you will pay on average 720 nok.

There is also a mobile app in Stavanger, Uber, which will offer a price from 440 nok.
