Fotografiska

Photographic

Fotografiska is a very popular museum of contemporary photography, art and culture and is located in two locations in Stockholm.

The institution also has branches in New York, Berlin and Tallinn, Estonia.

What will you see at the museum?

The museum is connected to the gallery and the permanent exhibition on the history of photography, both technically and artistically, is complemented by frequent temporary exhibitions on specific themes.

The exhibition with many hundreds of photographs will also interest visitors who are not very interested in photography, and we definitely recommend stopping by for at least 30 minutes.

The second part of the Fotografiska Museum is more generally devoted to contemporary modern art, and in addition to photographs you will also find paintings, sculptures and abstract art.

Where is Fotografiska located?

The main building, where the photography exhibitions take place, is housed in a beautiful historic art-nouveau customs house on Södermalm Island near the centre.

It's a 5-10 minute walk from Slussen metro station.

The second building, which has been renamed the Museum of Modern Art, offers exhibitions of contemporary art, not just photography. This building can be found on the island of Skeppsholmen near the centre (a 10-minute walk from Gamla Stan or bus 65).
