Chinyero volcano

Chinyero

The extremely interesting landscape around the Chinyero volcano, aptly called Montaña Negras(Black Mountains), takes you off the main tourist routes to an area where the beauty of the lunar landscape of fossilised lava and black volcanic mountains combines with the lush greenery and scent of pine groves growing out of the lava fields.

There are several hiking trails through the Montaña Negras area. The shortest route around the Chinyero volcano starts at a small car park in the middle of nowhere on the TF-38 road - see map. The loop around the volcano is 6 km of fairly comfortable hiking trail with no significant elevation changes.

Other trailheads then start in the towns of San José de los Llanos and Santiago del Teide, see the tourist map of the area.
