The village of Lajido is located in one of the centres of the unique lava winery on the island of Pico.

Visit the educational centre, stroll along the pretty promenade, discover the traditional Azorean architecture and take a dip in the natural sea pools when the weather is nice.

The 10 best accommodations on Pico

Centro de Interpretação da Paisagem da Cultura da Vinha

This rather cringeworthy name is given to the interesting museum of Pico's wine culture, housed in several houses in the centre of the village of Lajido.

In our opinion, this centre is a little more interesting than the wine museum in Madalena because it focuses more on the origins of the island's tradition of lava vineyards, which are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The centre is open daily from 9:30-12:30 and 13:30-18:00 and admission is free.

Take a stroll through the village

Lajedo also has a pretty promenade with ocean views, which runs past traditional winery houses.

After about 200 metres from the village centre, you'll come to small natural pools in the sea, formed by lava rock deposits and safe to swim in.

The water is accessed by concrete steps.

How to get there

Lajido is located on the north coast near the airport and is only accessible by car. There are no buses to Lajido.

From the main ring road, follow the brown tourist sign with the vine pictogram, which will take you among the vineyards and directly to Lajido.
