The National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design in Oslo is one of the most important cultural institutions in Norway and hosts the nation's state-owned art collections.
The museum is housed in a modern 2022 building on the site of the former West Station on the Aker Brygge waterfront, next to the Nobel Peace Centre.
Museum collections
The museum encompasses several artistic movements, and with over 13,000 square metres of exhibition space, you'll be entertained for around 2 hours.
The inside of the museum is divided into several sections:
- National Gallery - exhibits paintings and drawings by mainly Norwegian artists, including famous 19th and early 20th century painters such as Edvard Munch and Carl Jacobsen.
- The Museum of Contemporary Art - exhibits paintings, sculptures and design from 1990 to the present day and competes with the nearby private Astrup Fearnley Museet for visitor favour
- Architecture - a section dedicated to models, drawings and photographs of important Norwegian buildings
- The Museum of Art - holds a collection of mainly handicrafts, costumes, textiles, furniture, glass or carpets from antiquity to the present day
In addition to permanent exhibitions, the museum often hosts temporary exhibitions and events.
Admission and opening hours
The museum is open at the following times:
- Monday - closed
- Tuesday, Wednesday - 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
- Thursday to Sunday - 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

- 200 nok - Adults
- 120 nok - minors under 25 years of age
