Walking along the main Karl Johan Street towards the Central Station, you will come across the famous Domkirke Cathedral on your left. This cathedral is an important religious and historical building and is used by the Norwegian royal family for weddings and funerals.

At first glance, Oslo Cathedral may not impress, and it is one of the least distinctive churches among European capitals. However, the Domkirke has great historical value and is one of the oldest monuments in Oslo.

It was completed in 1697 and most of the building is in the Baroque style.

At first glance, the massive tower with bell tower stands out in proportion to the overall size of the church.

Admission and opening hours

The interior of the cathedral is magnificent and particularly noteworthy are the beautiful modern paintings and frescoes on the ceiling dating from the 1960s.

Admission is free and the cathedral is open to the public from 10:00 to 16:00.
