Where to stay in Ålesund

Alesund

Find out where the best locations for accommodation in Alesund are and tips for specific budget or quality hotels.

Where to stay in Ålesund

The hotel/hostel network in Ålesund is not very dense, but it's perfectly adequate for its size.

Quality hotels

However, if you're after quality hotels, these are mainly located in the centre itself, and some of them offer views of the Ålesundet canal, which is, to put it bluntly, reminiscent of Venice's Grand Canal.

  • Hotel Brosundet **** - The city's most famous hotel is housed in an iconic yellow house right on the banks of the canal.
  • Scandic Parken **** - a hotel of a well-known chain with relatively lower prices compared to hotels of similar quality can be found right in the city centre
  • Quality Hotel Ålesund **** - popular hotel with a beautiful sea view located in the centre just a few steps from Skateflukaia pier

Cheapest accommodation

If you're looking to save as much as possible, we'd recommend these accommodations.

  • Volsdalen Camping - A fully equipped campsite including the option of private cabins with toilet and bathroom facilities at about half the price of the hotels in the centre. The campsite is located in the town and the centre can be reached in 10 minutes by public bus
  • Hotel Aalesund Airport *** - the hotel is located about 7 km from the centre on the island of Valedora and is ideal for those travelling by car. The prices are half those of the hotels in town

Prices

Unsurprisingly, accommodation prices in Norway are high, perhaps only more bearable in the low season.

In any case, expect to pay from 100 eur and above per night and double room. Minimal savings will be made by staying outside the centre, as prices are not significantly less.

Of course, the situation is different if you have a rental car or even your own car with you, in which case you can choose accommodation outside Alesund.
