Torre delle Ore

Torre delle Ore

The Torre delle Ore, or Torre dell'Orologio, is a famous astronomical clock and bell tower in one. The clock tower is one of the symbols of the city. At 50 metres high, the Torre delle Ore is the tallest secular tower in Lucca, surpassed only by the 59-metre-high bell tower of St. Martin's Cathedral.

Tower building was a popular discipline in Italy during the Middle Ages, adding importance to cities and influential people. The city council of the time decided to build a clock tower, which it approved in 1390.

Nowadays, you can climb the Torre delle Ore up some 250 steps and enjoy spectacular views of the city and the nearby mountains.

Entrance costs 5 eur, alternatively you can opt for a combined ticket for 12 eur, which also covers the neighbouring Torre Guinigi tower and the Botanical Gardens.
