Grand Palais

Grand Palais

The Grand Palais is a magnificent building near the Champs-Élysées and Place de la Concorde. Like the smaller Petit Palais opposite, the Grand Palais was built for the 1900 World Expo.

Architecture

The most interesting feature of the Grand Palais is the Art Nouveau steel-and-glass structure that covers the pavilion and gives it a special atmosphere. The dominant feature of the palace is the 45-metre-high dome, visible from every vantage point in Paris. The palace has 3 entrances, but the main one is the large portal from Winston Churchill Street.

Museum and exhibitions

Today the premises are used for various temporary exhibitions and large events such as art and history exhibitions, book fairs, agricultural machinery exhibitions and even fashion shows.

Every year, for example, the Grand Palais is the venue for the Paris Fashion Week shows, where the main halls are transformed each year into completely different original backdrops in front of which the fashion shows take place.

Admission and opening hours

Opening hours and entrance fees vary according to the type of exhibition and event. It is therefore a good idea to check their official website in advance for up-to-date information, while you can also buy a ticket straight away. For more information, visit the official website: www.grandpalais.fr.

Transportation and location

The Grand Palais is close to the Champs-Élysées-Clemenceau metro station, served by line 1. If you want to walk across the Alexandre III bridge, you can get off at the other bank at the Invalides station (8, 13, RER line C).
