Palais du Pharo

Palais du Pharo

The Palais Pharo is one of Marseille's most important monuments and stands on an elevated bank above the old harbour. The mid-19th-century building is now used as a convention centre and therefore does not attract tourists on its own.

Nevertheless, the area in which it stands, Le Pharo, is one of the most beautiful places in Marseille.

Breathtaking views of the Vieux Port

The vast park, where locals and tourists alike love to picnic, offers the best views of the Vieux Port, as well as the bay with the modern port in the background.

The viewpoint runs the length of the Émile Duclaux Park and is dominated by a monument to the heroes and victims of the sea.

The park, and therefore the viewpoint, is open every day from 7:00-21:00.

There is no entrance fee.

Accommodation at Le Pharo

Just next to the gardens you will find two quality hotels. The area is considerably quieter than the centre of Marseille itself, yet easily accessible and with beautiful views.

How to get there

It takes about 15 minutes on foot to get to Emile Duclaux Park from Vieux Port, which is often the most convenient transport option.

Buses from the centre towards the coast are often very crowded.

The nearest bus stop is right at the entrance to the park and is called "Le Pharo". The 81, 82, 82S and 83 lines stop here.
