The modern Cosquer Méditerranée Museum is located on the seafront between La Major Cathedral and the Muc.
The Cosquer Museum specialises in the prehistoric civilisations that lived on the Mediterranean coast. The main attraction of the museum is the replica of the Cosquer Cave.
Cosquer Cave
The main aim of the museum is to provide the opportunity to visit an extremely valuable cave with murals, discovered in 1985 by the diver Henry Cosquer.
Because the cave is located in inaccessible terrain south of Marseille 37 metres below sea level, an exact replica of it was built in this very museum.
The cave is particularly valuable for its well-preserved murals and reliefs from the Palaeolithic period (27,000 to 19,000 BC).
The replica of the cave inside the museum is truly perfect and will give visitors a unique experience.
Entrance fees and opening hours
The cave replica museum is open every day from 9:30 am. It closes at 18:00 on weekdays, and at 19:30 on weekends and holidays.
The basic admission price is 18 eur.
