Windwardside

Windwardside

The town of Windwardside is located in the middle of the island and is a major base for tourists with plenty of facilities.

The village is the starting point for many hiking trails, including the least strenuous trail to the top of Mount Scenery.

Although Windwardside is not the main or largest village on the island, it has the richest tourist facilities.

The village centre is lined with souvenir shops, two grocery supermarkets, a post office and several restaurants and bars. There is also an information office.

There is also a bank, an ATM or perhaps an estate agents.

There are three main hiking trails leading from Windwarside:

  • Mount Scenery Trail the highest mountain in the Netherlands.
  • Giles Quarter Trail the southern slopes of the island to the sea and on to the harbour
  • Spring Bay Trail to a beautiful rocky bay bordered by photogenic cliffs

A short 30-minute walk will also take you to the small peak of Mas'Cohone above the town, from where you can enjoy beautiful views.

In Windwardside, you can also visit 2 churches or the small Harry L. Johnson Museum, which describes Johnson's life and work as an enthusiast in preserving the cultural and natural history of the island. The entrance fee is 2 usd and the opening hours can be found on the museum's official website: museum-saba.com.
