The house of the Austrian and somewhat unconventional architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser belongs to the gems of Viennese modern architecture.
The fabulously colourful house, where straight lines and right angles really have no place, is named after its architect - the Hundertwasserhaus.

Architecture and history
The works of the artist Hundertwasser will delight especially playful souls and people with a rich imagination, whose works are known all over the world.
He couldn't be left behind in his hometown either, where the Hundertwasserhaus is one of the most visited places ever. The appearance of the house reflects the architect's approach to life, with no regular or straight lines at all, but instead a plethora of colour and, last but not least, it is covered in greenery inside and out.
The house was completed in 1985 with the original idea of housing the socially disadvantaged. It ended up being one of Vienna's main tourist attractions, and the flats are among the most expensive, partly occupied by builders.
Hundertwasser Village
The influx of tourists that the Hundertwasserhaus caused was somewhat surprising to its author, so it was not until 6 years later that he decided to add tourist facilities.
The "Hundertwasser Village" was created right next to the colourful house, which functions partly as a mini-museum with the history of the house, but mainly as a souvenir shop.
Entrance to the village is free.
Location and transport
The house is located in the wider centre of Vienna on Löwengasse and is relatively easy to reach by public transport:
- Tram - stop Hetzgasse or Löwengasse both about 80 meters from the house (line 1)
- Bus - Löwengasse stop approx. 180 metres (line 4A)
- Metro - Landstrasse station approx. 600 metres (lines U3, U4)
