Transfer at Windhoek Airport

Namibia

Hosea Kutako Airport is small and has 2 terminals. The larger building (Terminal 2) serves all international departures and the smaller older building (Terminal 1) about 50 meters to the right of the international terminal serves all domestic flights.

Movement inside is clear and it takes no more than 2 minutes to walk from security to the aircraft.

On the negative side, there is a lack of seating for larger aircraft (e.g. in the direction of Frankfurt or Addis Ababa).

Transfer between flights

No major airline is based at the airport, so guaranteed transfers here are very rare.

However, the airport does have a direct transfer option without having to go through immigration. You will only have to go through a quick security check during any guaranteed transfer between two international flights.

The transfer from an international flight to another international flight will take no more than 10 minutes.

When transferring between domestic and international flights, you must always go through immigration, collect your baggage, walk the approximately 50 between terminals and check in again.

Overnight in the terminal - opening hours

The airport is closed at night and it is not possible to stay overnight. The terminal closes after the last arrival at approximately 22:00 and opens at approximately 4:00 in the morning.

Hotels near the airport

There is no hotel directly on the airport premises or within walking distance.

If you arrive late in the evening or depart early in the morning and don't want to spend more than an hour driving to Windhoek, 50 km away, you can use a very well rated hotel Etango Ranch Guest Farm in the middle of the wilderness about 3.5 km from the airport.

The hotel offers an airport transfer for a fee of approx. 10 usd. The transfer must be arranged in advance at the time of booking.
