Transportation from Stockholm Vasteras Airport

Vasteras

The airport terminal is 7 km east of Västerås city centre and is accessible by local bus line 3 and long-distance buses direct to Stockholm.

Flygbussarna to Stockholm

Each scheduled arrival and departure is followed by buses from Vy Flygbussarna, which go directly to Stockholm city centre without changing buses. The line runs directly without a single stop to Stockholm C central station in the city centre.

Buses from central Stockholm always leave the airport 100 minutes before departure, which is more than enough time.

Buses always leave the airport 30 minutes after arrival, but if the plane is delayed, the bus will wait.

Tickets should ideally be purchased online at flygbussarna.se/vasteras (it is bought without entering a date and time and is valid for 3 months from purchase for any connection). You can also buy a ticket from the driver (card only).

  • Price - 229 sek
  • Journey time - 80 minutes
  • Frequency - 1 bus per flight

Public bus to Västerås

There is also a stop for local bus line 3 on the right in front of the terminal. Bus route number 3 runs across Västerås from east to west and of course also stops at the main train and bus station Centralen.

A ticket for 32 sek valid for 60 minutes for all bus routes in Västerås can be purchased by simply attaching your own contactless card to the driver's reader. Only the first door is ever used for boarding.

Alternatively, you can buy tickets via the VL mobile app (download from Google Play / App Store).

  • Price - 32 sek for 60 minutes
  • Frequency - 10 minutes on weekdays; 15 minutes on weekends
  • Journey time - 20 minutes to the main station
  • Operating hours - 5:00 am to 11:40 pm
  • Timetables and other information: vl.se

Via Västerås cheaper to Stockholm

From the centre of Västerås, which can be reached from the airport by local bus 3 for 32 sek, you can take long-distance trains or buses to other places in Sweden.

Travelling to Stockholm with a change in Västerås city centre is cheaper than a direct connection with Flygbussarna.

  • Train to Stockholm (sj.se) - from 105 sek, runs twice an hour, journey time 60 minutes
  • Bus to Stockholm (flixbus.com) - from 90 sek, but only runs twice a day and rarely follows the airport timetable
  • Train to Örebro (sj.se) - from 115 sek, runs 2x per hour, journey time 52 minutes
  • Bus to Örebro (flixbus.com) - from 80 sek, but only runs 2x a day and rarely follows the airport timetable
  • Bus 773 direction Uppsala (ul.se) - from 44 sek, runs 2x per hour, journey time 90 minutes

Car rental

If you plan to go on a road-trip around Sweden, renting a car directly at the airport will be the ideal choice. Västerås Airport is close to the motorway connecting Stockholm with Örebro.

Due to very little competition from car rental companies in Västerås, prices are high and start at amounts starting from 400 eur per week.
