Transfer at Soul Incheon Airport

Bukchon

The airport currently operates 2 terminals, which are divided by airline:

  • Terminal 1: all airlines that do not fly to Terminal 2.
  • Terminal 2: AeroMexico, Air France, China Airlines, Delta, Garuda Indonesia, KLM, Korean Air, Xiamen Airlines

The terminals are completely separate from each other, each built on one side of the airport.

Terminal 1 then has a separate building in the middle of the concourse, which is reached by an automated underground train from the main T1 building (24 hours/free - security check only).

Transfer between flights

As Incheon Airport operates almost exclusively domestic flights, you'll never go through passport control during your transfer.

This only applies if you have purchased both flights on the same booking.

The transfer at Incheon Airport is very well organised.

Transfer within the same building

Most transfers take place within a single terminal.

In the case of Terminal 2, you will always stay in one building. In Terminal 1 you can either stay in the main building or in the satellite terminal (Concourse).

  1. Security check
  2. Boarding

Realistic transfer times vary between 15 and 30 minutes depending on the distance from the departure gate.

Terminal 1 <-> Concourse

If your flight departs from the satellite building in the middle of the airport, you must use the free automatic underground train. The train runs 24/7 and the journey time is approximately 3 minutes.

  1. Security check
  2. Ride the automatic train
  3. Boarding

The real transfer time is between 25 and 40 minutes depending on the distance from the departure gate.

Terminal 2 <-> Concourse

Although the satellite building (Concourse) is officially part of Terminal 1, an automatic underground train also runs from Terminal 2. The train runs 24/7 and the journey time is approximately 3 minutes.

  1. Ride the automatic train
  2. Security check
  3. Boarding

The real transfer time is between 25 and 40 minutes depending on the distance from the departure gate.

Terminal 1 <-> Terminal 2

You can also travel between terminals within the transit zone. However, transfers between terminals are rare.

You must first take an underground automatic train to the satellite building in the middle of the airport area (Concourse), where you change to a second train to your destination terminal.

Security checks always take place at Terminal 1.

The real transfer time is between 35 and 50 minutes depending on the distance to the departure gate.

Transportation between terminals (landside)

You can also move between terminals via the landside.

You can use the train that runs to downtown Seoul, which also connects the two terminals. However, you need to buy a ticket for 900 krw. The ride takes about 4 minutes.

However, a free airport bus also connects Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.

At Terminal 1, the bus stops at exit 8 of the airport concourse, and at Terminal 2, it stops between exits 4 and 5. The bus only runs between 5:20 and 21:50 once every 5 to 8 minutes.

Free city tour on transfer

For longer layovers, you can take advantage of free organized tours to see Korean culture at nearby temples as well as downtown Seoul.
