There is a wide choice of car rental companies in Montreal, which you can compare at the click of a button, for example via the web booking.com.

All car rental companies are located on the ground floor or 1st floor of the garage building directly opposite the terminal.

Buses

The bus is the most convenient form of public transport to get from the airport to downtown Montreal.

Several lines stop directly in front of the terminal.

Route 747

To get to central Montreal without changing buses, take the 747 bus.

The line follows the highway for most of its route to downtown, which it travels completely north to south.

Between about 11:00 am and 6:30 pm, select services run only along the route to the Lionel-Groux subway station on the southern edge of downtown, where you can transfer to the Green or Orange subway lines and many other bus lines.

On the 747 line, you cannot buy a single ticket, but only a 24-hour ticket for 11 cad valid for all bus and subway lines in Montreal. A 72-hour ticket is also valid on the 747 line for 21,75 cad.

Fares can be paid in cash at the driver (exact amount only) or via an OPUS card for 6 cad, which can be used to upload different tickets repeatedly. The OPUS Card can be purchased from the machines in the arrivals hall.

  • Travel time - 35 to 45 minutes
  • Frequency - every 7 to 25 minutes (some services run only on the Airport - Lionel Groulx section)
  • Fares - 11 cad for 24 hours (single fares do not apply here)
  • Last bus from the airport - 23:49 (runs 24/7 on Saturday and Sunday nights)
  • First bus to the airport (Garde d'Autocars) - 4:50
  • First bus to the airport (Lionel-Groulx) - 5:12

Route 460

A cheaper alternative for one-way trips from the airport to Montreal is to combine bus 460 to the "De La Savane" station and the orange metro line towards downtown.

However, the bus only runs during peak weekday hours, roughly from 5:30 to 9:30 am and from 2:30 to 7:30 pm. For a full timetable, visit the website: stm.info/line-460.

Even with transfers, the journey will take about 60 minutes in total and you will pay for 2 rides (bus + metro) 7 cad.

You can also use a day pass for this line for 11 cad.

Routes 204 and 209

Buses on routes 204 and 209 are only for travel to residential neighbourhoods in the area or to Dorval train station, but there is a free Canadian Railways bus that goes there.

Fares on both routes are 3,75 cad, or 11 cad for 24 hours.

For complete schedules, visit: stm.info/bus.

Night buses

Special night buses run to the airport between approximately midnight and 5:00 am.

On the night services going into the city centre, you can use a single fare for 3,75 cad or a 24-hour ticket for 11 cad.

To get to the city centre, use the 356 line, which runs 1-2 times per hour.

Train

The train does not go directly to the terminal, but a station called "Dorval" is located just about 1.5 km from the airport.

A free Canadian Railways bus runs between the airport and the station, and the stop is marked with the "VIA Rail" logo. The bus runs with a frequency of 45-60 minutes and connects to all trains. For information about connections to the airport, visit the website: viarail.ca/montreal-trudeau-shuttle.

Alternatively, you can also take buses 204 or 209 to the Dorval station behind 3,75 cad.

Two train types stop at Dorval Station.

Long-distance trains

From Dorval, you will mainly use long-distance trains. Ideally, buy tickets for the lowest price at least 3 weeks in advance through the official Canadian Railways website , viarail.ca.

  • Toronto - from 54 cad, journey time around 5 hours
  • Ottawa - from 41 cad, journey time approx. 1.5 hours
  • Kingston - from 48 cad, journey time approx. 2 hours

Commuter rail

Rail line 11 operates as a connection between downtown Montreal and the suburb of Vaudreuil. In the direction of the centre it runs approximately every 15-20 minutes in the morning, while in the direction from the centre to the airport and onwards to Vaudreuil it is only frequent in the afternoon.

At other times of the day, the frequency is only one train every 2 hours.

In Montreal, the train terminates at Lucien l'Allier station and the metro can be changed at Montreal-Ouest station.

Tickets can be purchased from the ticket machine at the station for 3,75 cad.

Timetables and official information can be found on the website: exo.quebec.

Taxi, Uber

The official taxi service to the airport is operated by Uber.

While it's only known as a mobile app in most cities, in Montreal you can summon an Uber through a kiosk in the arrivals halls.

Depending on current demand, the price to downtown Montreal is around 45 cad.
