Transfer at Dublin Airport

Night Bridge in Dublin

There are two terminals in the area, which are close to each other, about 5 minutes on foot. However, they are connected internally and even by a transit zone, so you don't have to go outside at all when moving between them.

The terminals are divided by airline:

  • Terminal 1: Aegean Airlines, Air Baltic, Air Canada, Air France, Air Transat, British Airways, Egyptair, Etihad Airways, Eurowings, Finnair, Iberia, Icelandair, KLM, Lufthansa, Loganair, LOT, Norwegian, Play, Qatar Airways, Ryanair, SAS, Swiss, TAP, Transavia, TUI, Turkish Airlines, Vueling, WestJet, Wideroe
  • Terminal 2: Aer Lingus, American Airlines, Delta, El Al, Emirates, United

Dublin Airport is generally very modern and spacious, with the Ryanair departures section of the terminal being less well equipped.

The transfer area between flights

If you're connecting within the same airline (or its partners), in the vast majority of cases you'll be connecting within one terminal (most often number 2, which is served by the local mainline Aer Lingus). Dublin Airport is easy to navigate and within a 15-minute walk. Connections can be made within 35 minutes.

If you are connecting to a flight to the USA, expect to clear immigration at Dublin Airport. In the US, you will not go through customs or passport control once you arrive from Dublin and will head straight to baggage claim.

There is no security check when you transfer within one terminal. If you are moving between terminals, you must go through security within the transit area.

In the case of a non-guaranteed transfer (i.e. if you purchase two tickets separately on your own), you do not have to leave the transit area if you are travelling with hand luggage only. In these cases, if you are travelling with checked baggage, you must always go out and check in again, and we recommend a minimum of 2.5 hours for a smooth transfer.
