Most visitors to the Northern Norway region choose to rent a car. Indeed, it would be a shame not to do so, it's the only way to get anywhere and stop anywhere in the countryside.
Use public transport especially for getting to the bigger cities, for example, arriving in the evening and renting a car the next day. Buses run to Alta quite frequently and you can also use them to get to Hammerfest, where again you can rent a car.

Taxi
There are official taxis waiting outside the airport terminal for each scheduled arrival. Mobile apps like Uber or Bolt are not available here.
The price from the airport to downtown Alta (about a 7-minute ride) is around 250 nok and can be paid by card.
