Tickets can be purchased via the azoresairlines.pt/en website. However, the company also cooperates with other airlines and offers connecting flights in Europe or America.

You can also compare prices with other airlines via Skyscanner, which is the ideal place to click through to the airline's website.

When to buy airline tickets

With SATA Air Açores, it more or less doesn't matter when you book your tickets. Prices don't change much and typically range from 50 eur to 80 eur for a one-way ticket on inter-island flights.

Prices for return flights from the Azores to the Canary Islands or Madeira usually do not fall below 300 eur.

Fare classes

The fare structure and offerings for connecting flights between the Azores is very simple.

There is only one fare on offer Value.

For flights from the Azores to Madeira or the Canary Islands, tickets can be purchased in four different fare classes, differing in the number of bags or in the conditions for changes and cancellations.

Free flights around the Azores

2019 Update: The information below applies to Azores residents only.

Travellers arriving in or departing from/to mainland Portugal or Madeira and using Ponta Delgada, Terceira, Horta, Santa Maria or Pico airports for arrival can use one free return ticket to any other Azores island from the point of arrival.

The condition is that there must be a maximum of 24 hours between the arrival in Ponta Delgada and the departure to the other island, as well as on the return journey, if there is such a connection.

You can also apply for a free ticket if you arrive in the Azores on an airline other than Azores Airlines or SATA.

If you have purchased, for example, a Frankfurt - Lisbon - Azores ticket, this service does not apply to you, the starting point must be in Portugal only.

You can make a bookingrequest on this website: encaminhamentos.sata.pt.

However, we recommend that you purchase your ticket from Lisbon, Porto, Madeira or Faro to your final destination directly. This is because the price automatically includes a free onward flight, so that in practice, for example, you will pay exactly the same amount for a single ticket Lisbon - Ponta Delgada - Flores as for a single ticket Lisbon - Ponta Delgada, with a subsequent request for another separate free ticket.

Splitting the trip and asking for a free ticket is worthwhile, for example, if you get a very cheap ticket between Portugal and the Azores with Ryanair, which does not offer connecting flights to other islands.
