One of the oldest zoos in America, besides the exotic animal species, it is especially interesting because since its founding in 1868 it has remained free for all visitors.

The Lincoln Zoo covers an area of 14 hectares and is therefore one of the smaller zoos.

What to see at the zoo?

In total, you can see over 200 animal species and over 1,100 individual animals at the zoo.

The zoo keeps big cats, polar bears, gorillas, monkeys, penguins, birds, rhinos, sea lions or reptiles.

Also popular is the extensive arboretum full of beautiful and exotic trees.

Admission and opening hours

Lincoln Zoo is open daily from 8:00 am. Indoor exhibits typically do not open until 10:00 am. Closing times vary by season, see the official website at lpzoo.org/visit/hours-location.

How to get there

The zoo is located near Old Town, just north of Downtown.

No subway stations are within convenient walking distance, however you can take several bus lines.

• Clark/Webster stop about 100 metres from the main entrance - lines 22, 36
