Beomeosa Buddhist Temple is situated in the forested hills above Busan and is one of the most famous temples of this religion in the whole of South Korea.
Beomoesa belongs to the Jogye order of Korean Buddhism and is one of the oldest in the country. It was founded in 678.
History and appearance of the temple
Beomeosa Temple is considered to be one of the 3 most important temples in the southeast of the country and one of the top 10 temples of Korean Buddhism. The construction of the complex was completed in 678, but during the Japanese invasion in the 16th century, almost all of it lay in ashes.
In the early 17th century, however, the temple was rebuilt almost unchanged.
The temple is still active and houses over 200 monks. Apart from the quarters, however, most of it is open to the public.
Beomoesa may not impress with its size, but it certainly impresses with its beautiful, peaceful surroundings. You can enter all the courtyards and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere away from the hustle and bustle of the city in the middle of the wooded mountains.
You must always take your shoes off when entering the interiors.

The temple is open to the public daily from 8:30-17:30.

Transportation to the Beomeosa Temple
The bus stop of line 90 is located about 100 meters from the entrance (location on the map). The bus leaves from Nopo subway station, which is the terminus of orange line 1. In total, it takes about 80 minutes to get from downtown Busan to the temple.
