Along the northern shore of the lake Maltańskie runs the Maltanka miniature narrow-gauge railway, one of the most famous attractions and activities in Poznan.

The three smaller cars are pulled by a 1925 Borsig steam locomotive, which has to be started at around 5am to make its first run at 10am.

Station

The route of the railway is 4 kilometres long and during this journey the train stops at two intermediate stations.

Maltese

The main station of the Maltanka narrow-gauge railway is located on the right bank of the lake near the Rondo Śródka bus and tram stop. The building was built in 1998 in the Prussian architectural style and includes a ticket office, waiting room and restaurant.

The station has two platforms for exiting and boarding. On the platform you can also admire the Tx26-423 steam locomotive or wooden carriages on the sidings.

Ptyś

The Ptyś stop is located at the Termy Maltańskie recreational and sports complex. The train stops right in front of the main entrance to the complex.

Balbinka

Balbinka station is mainly used for passing two trains, as it has two tracks and two platforms. The semaphores are controlled from Maltanka and Zwierzyniec stations.

Przystań

The historic Przystań stop is no longer in use and only the name board located in the railway shed has been preserved.

Zwierzyniec

The final station Zwierzyniec is located just a few steps from the new zoo. As at Maltanka station, there is a loop track arrangement for easy reversal of the direction of the train.

The ticket office can be found at the platform under the canopy.

Timetable

The train runs regularly every day of the week from the end of April to the end of September.

It departs from Maltanka main station every hour at 10:00, 11:00, 12:00,... until 18:00. It also departs from ZOO station every hour at 10:30, 11:30, 12:30,... with the last departure at 18:30.

Tickets

Tickets can be purchased at the Maltanka boarding station and the final station Zwierzyniec. Payment is possible in cash and by credit card. The price list is as follows:

• Adults - 15 pln
• Children up to 15 years old - 10 pln
• Family (2 adults + 3 children) - 45 pln

The price is for one ride in one direction. If you want to use the return journey, you must buy the ticket twice. However, I personally recommend taking a walk along the bike path along the north or south shore of the lake.
