Do you want to discover underwater life more deeply than just through snorkelling goggles? Then head to the National Aquarium of Malta, which showcases life in the waters around Malta, as well as in the world's tropical oceans, in its many huge tanks.

The aquarium is divided into several zones, each focusing on a different area. Here, you will walk through underwater tunnels surrounded on all sides by water with colourful animals from the smallest fish to sharks.

  • Zone 1 - Malta's west coast: fish found in the waters around the island of Malta
  • Zone 2 - Valletta Harbour: small fish living close to the boats, the exhibition is complemented by beautiful murals
  • Zone 3 - Tropical Oceans
  • Zone 4 - Ancient Rome: see underwater life around a model of a sunken Roman ship
  • Zone 5 - Gozo and Comino: colourful fish living in the waters around Gozo and Comino

Entrance fees and opening times

You can visit the aquarium daily from 10:00 to 18:00 (last entry at 17:30).

Children under 3 years old get in for free.

How to get there

Malta National Aquarium is located in Qawra (Bugibba) and you will find free parking right at the entrance.

Even without a car you can get here very easily. There is a bus stop right at the entrance, with buses from all over the island passing through. Click on the number of the line and you will see the exact route with the timetable.

  • Line X3: Airport, Mdina, Birkirkara, Paola, Tarxien,
  • Line 45: Valletta, Mosta, Birkirkara,
  • Line 186: Mosta, Mdina, Ta'Qali,
  • Line 212: Sliema, San Giljan, Pembroke,
  • Line 221: Mellieha, Ghadira Cirkewwa, Gozo and Comino boat dock,
  • Line 280: Mosta, Birkirkara, Mater Dei.
