Nuraxi Barumini

The archaeological site of Su Nuraxi di Barumini is the most important monument of the typical Sardinian nuraghs, megalithic defensive structures spread all over the island.

The site at Barumini is dominated by a three-storey large nurache, which is considered the best preserved monument of the nuragian civilisation. Its origins are estimated to date back to between 2,000 and 1,500 BC and since 1997 the entire complex has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Entrance fees and opening hours

The museum is open every day of the year from 9:00 a.m. and closes at different times of the year, see the official website: fondazionebarumini.it/orari-e-tariffe.

Admission is divided into several categories:

  • Adults - 15 eur
  • Children 13-17 years - 12 eur
  • Children 7-12 years - 9 eur
  • Admission during rainy weather, when only the outdoor exhibitions are accessible (due to the danger of falling stones) - - 7 eur

Transportation

The site lies about 500 metres from the town of Barumini, about 65 km north of Cagliari. You can park for free in the public car park right at the entrance.

Although there is no bus service directly to the site, there is a wide footpath along the road to Barumini, 500 metres away. And Barumini is already conveniently reached by several bus routes:

  • Cagliari - lines 436, 501
  • Isili (transfer to the tourist train) - line 9001
  • Sanluri (transfer to many other bus lines) - line 9001

Accommodation

If you go to Barumini by public transport, it may be more time-efficient to stay here. There are several guesthouses and one classic hotel right in the town.
