This picturesque town on the western coast of Sardinia in the province of Oristano fascinates visitors with its streets, colourful facades, pebbled pavements and palaces.

The 10 cheapest hotels in Sardinia

Last but not least, visitors will be enchanted by the Seravalle Castle, built in the 12th century by the Tuscan Malaspino family. Only the walls, towers and chapel remain of the structure.

Monuments, streets and the Temo river

The town of Bosa attracts tourists mainly thanks to its narrow streets and narrow colourful houses. The town's location at the mouth of the meandering Temo River, which forms a double-esque point in the town, adds to its appeal, as does the surrounding hilly landscape.

The colourful houses mostly date from the 18th century, but there are also much older monuments in the town, such as:

  • Castle Serravalle - The landmark of the town is the 13th-century Serravalle Castle (sometimes called Malaspina), which towers over the historic centre.
  • Church San Pietro - The oldest religious monument in the Gothic-Romanesque style, dating from the 11th century, is the well-preserved church of St. Peter
  • The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception - the largest church in Bosa is a Baroque cathedral whose origins date back to the 12th century, however, the current form comes from a complete rebuilding in the 19th century

Beaches and swimming

Right in town you will find a beautiful wide sandy beach called Bosa Marina after the local area.

The beach is one of the nicest urban beaches in Sardinia, it doesn't tend to be crowded and the prices of the restaurants and bars are more reasonable than elsewhere in Sardinia. There is a paid parking lot right next to the beach (2,50 eur daily) and a bus stop for the 9205, 9211, 9223, 9225 and 9312 bus lines.

Accommodation Bosa

Bosa is one of the cheapest towns in otherwise expensive Sardinia. Even in high season you can easily get a double room per night for 70 eur, even in smaller hotels.

This makes Bosa an ideal base and starting point if you are planning an exploratory holiday in Sardinia.

How to get there

If you're heading to Bosa by car, expect to pay for parking. However, the prices aren't exorbitant, you'll usually pay 0,50 eur for an hour and up to 6 eur for a full day.
